Outdoors Comes InsideCatering to their love for nature, a popular trend among active adult home buyers is the desire for abundant outdoor living spaces – the ability to bring the outdoors in. Leading Atlanta active adult builder The Orchards Group is not only providing this as an option with their new homes, they are providing options within this feature. Their buyers can select from one of three great ways to enjoy casual indoor/outdoor living with a covered porch, a screened porch or a sunroom. Whether buyers’ needs and wants lead them to choose a ranch condominium, master-on-main attached Villa or single family floor plan, they all enjoy laid-back indoor-outdoor living that allows them to spend time outside without leaving the comfort of home.
Most of the floor plans offered by The Orchards Group include a covered porch which adds around 150 square feet of living space to the home, creating the perfect space for friends, family and neighbors to gather. Should the buyer wish, this covered porch can be screened in, enabling the owner to capture cool breezes and birds chirping while being sheltered from the hot sun and pesky bugs. Taking it one step further, the covered porch can be built as a true indoor sunroom, offering all of these benefits, year-round, even during inclement weather.
These indoor-outdoor spaces make it easy for homeowners to keep a well-maintained container garden, but many also use the space for other forms of recreation, like crafts or hobbies that they can enjoy outside while keeping the inside clean. Others use the space primarily for outdoor dining and entertaining, many treating their porches and patios as an extension of their kitchens, bringing the comforts of the inside home, like placing functional, fashionable and comfortable furniture outside – not your standard hard plastic patio chairs. However homeowners decide to use these spaces, the key qualities of indoor-outdoor spaces are that they are multi-purpose, low maintenance and calm-inducing.
The Orchards Group has homes featuring these popular indoor-outdoor spaces in three active adult communities in the north Atlanta area – two Cumming (Forsyth County) communities, The Orchards of Habersham Grove and The Orchards of Brannon Oak Farms and one Woodstock (Cherokee County) community, The Orchards of East Cherokee. All three communities offer new homes with top-quality features like large master retreats with elegant baths, gourmet kitchens and formal dining rooms and the best in finishes like vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, fireplaces and plentiful windows. The Orchards Group’s communities are also in the Atlanta area’s most desirable locations, with convenience to shopping, dining, and necessary services, and they all offer zero to low maintenance living, an active homeowners association and an on-staff social activities director.

The ride from the Hill District to Uptown was a twenty minute drive. It took them thirty minutes because of a stop for coffee and traffic. They all sat in the car silent. Each of them rocking and bouncing on the leather cushion because of the hilly terrain. Linus driving and staring straight ahead breathing hard with his mouth open, holding the steering wheel and a doughnut with his left hand and a Dunkin Donut's cup in the right, taking an occasional sip or bite. Franklin holding the Styrofoam cup on his crotch, his eyes lazily shifting from the road to the steam floating from the aperture in the plastic lid and back to the road
